The Akademie für Hochschulbildung (Academy for Higher Education) is an autonomous department of the Asia Caribbean Open Institute. It is dedicated to the great Albert Einstein, one of the most remarkable persons that ever lived. Professor Einstein, was born in the German Empire, but moved to Switzerland in 1895 and was a Swiss citizen since 1901. He took his education in Zurich including his PhD doctorate and eventually became a distinguished member of the League of Nation's International Commission on Intellectual Cooperation. This Commission led to the establishment of the International Institute of Intellectual Cooperation (IIIC), the predecessor of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization or UNESCO. Similar to these entities, the Akademie für Hochschulbildung aims to recognise great minds who can serve others in a unified global commitment.

Integral Factors

The Akademie für Hochschulbildung offers a correlative approach in the search for knowledge. It aims to develop the highest degree of creative thought, and contribute to the solution of concrete needs in society and the world. Our fundamental principle is to be an institution for freedom and democracy, for knowledge and innovation, and for humankind and the environment.

We aim to provide educational opportunities to non-traditional students such as working professionals, single parents, mature students, and others who have made extraordinary achievements in their personal lives.
Academic Equivalency

We understand and recognize the importance of various activities and experiences that people have done in their lives. These experiences could benefit them on their path towards earning a diploma or degree. In response to this, the Akademie für Hochschulbildung strongly supports the Global Convention on Higher Education.

The "Global Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education" was adopted by the 40th session of the UNESCO General Conference in November 2019. Its main objective is to expedite and simplify academic mobility between countries and regions. It is also the first treaty on higher education established by the United Nations with a worldwide capacity. For more information on this, please visit the UNESCO website.

This legally binding treaty was entered into force on 5 March 2023 and as of June 2024, there are 30 U.N. Member Countries that have ratified it. Among them is the United Kingdom which we are recognized and registered as a learning provider.

Under the Akademie für Hochschulbildung, we offer qualified students the recognition and equivalency of their prior learning to evaluate the skills and knowledge they have acquired outside the confines of formal education.

There are different methods to assess prior learning which include the following and many others:

  • full-time or part-time work
  • volunteer work
  • prior independent research
  • self study
  • cultural and artistic endeavours
  • hobbies and recreational pursuits
  • community or religious activities
  • foreign study
  • workplace training
  • military training and service
  • professional certifications
  • vocational certifications
  • national examinations
  • civic activities

Enrollment under the Academic Equivalency is open to applicants who are at least 25 years old and must have at least five (5) years of employment and related experience. Successful applicants will be interviewed and must pay a one-time assessment fee. Part of this fee will be used to enlist the service of an external academic who will conduct an impartial research and assessment on the applicant. This fee is non-refundable therefore applicants are requested to compile all requirements before applying. Applicants must also accept the risk of being denied.

Proof of prior learning may include all types of documentation such as employment records, payslips, certificates, photos, videos, etc. The period for the assessment of an application may take twenty (20) business days or more. Each application will be subject to due diligence procedures. Applicants who have successfully satisfied the requirements will be enrolled in the corresponding academic programme and may be entitled to the diploma or degree based on the result of their assessment. The applicant may also be advised to take additional courses and examinations if needed and final requirements are compulsory for graduation.

Applicants who fail the professional assessment will be asked to enroll through our regular academic route.
